| Today, the level of knowledge literacy of a country’s national population is critical to economic development.Especially in developed countries and regions, science and technology are effectively transformed into productive forces, and productivity rapidly drives economic growth. The knowledge level of the nation as a whole is the cornerstone of science and technology.Only if the knowledge level of the entire people improves, can science continue to develop and the technology can progress steadily. In such an era of knowledge economy,it is particularly important to find a path that can scale up and systematically improve public knowledge.Reading is an important way for individuals to acquire knowledge.Individuals can obtain deeper knowledge reserves, stronger comprehension ability, acceptance ability and innovation ability through reading.Through basic education,in the nine-year compulsory education of students, improving students’ reading ability is the best choice, and in the elementary school stage is the crucial period for students to cultivate reading habits and form hobbies and interests.During this time period, students’ interest in reading habits will influence their development of lifelong reading ability for a long time.At the same time, the role of reading also shows a certain influence on students’ academic performance. For elementary school students, their interest in and habits of reading can often affect their reading time, frequency, and quality.Only when students are interested in reading and the book itself, they will take the initiative to read more and read more and form reading behavior.Good reading habits will enable them to read correctly, scientifically, and effectively absorb popular knowledge or concepts conveyed in books.Reading long enough and reading frequently is the basis for primary school students to improve their reading quality. For primary school students, improving their basic language skills and their ability to accept a large number of extra-curricular readings and accumulating some simple vocabulary are extremely effective. At the same time, the long-term impact of reading on people is a process that is subtle and accumulating. It does not happen overnight. The earlier the initiation of reading enlightenment and the formation of habits, the sooner students begin to establish and improve their world outlook under the guidance of books and conduct preliminary research on things.Thinking and exploration help to strengthen their thinking ability and thinking ability.Good reading interests and habits can improve students’ reading quality and have a positive effect on reading performance. At the same time,we can further believe that students improve their thinking and ability through reading, which in turn can improve their academic performance at school. At the same time, most international literature generally believe that independent reading can improve academic performance. Therefore,in many countries around the world, the government is actively investing in independent reading programs. However, research on independent reading rarely involves rural China.Rural students lag far behind urban students in academic subjects. The purpose of this paper is to explore students’ independent reading interests and habits and their relationship to test scores. It summarizes the survey data of 11,054 students from 120 schools.Using quantitative methods,we try to explore more deeply the investment of library and book resources and the reading guidance of schools and families can help(or do not help)students develop cognitive and non-cognitive skills.According to our quantitative results, although high reading interest and good reading habits are related to higher test scores, only 16%of students usually read more than 60 minutes a day.In other words,extra-curricular reading is a means of effectively improving student achievement.Schools can organize systematic extra-curricular reading activities and integrate this reading activity into the overall education as a part of basic education to guide primary school students in extra-curricular reading and gradually cultivate their Interest, forming good habits, and then help improve their academic performance. As for the current situation of extra-curricular reading, rural primary school students have a low reading rate. Most schools have not yet realized the importance of extra-curricular reading and take corresponding measures. The quality of extra-curricular reading for primary school students has considerable room for improvement.Projects will be able to achieve very optimistic results.According to the results of this study and the results obtained from the data, corresponding policy recommendations are proposed.First, the school provides a library or reading room with a large number of extracurricular books suitable for primary school students to read.Second, the teacher guides the pupils to read books, selects books for the students, recommends good books, and teaches correct reading methods and scientific and healthy reading habits.Third, appropriate reading and communication activities, enhance communication among students, and reinforce their interest in reading after class through interactive reading. |
