Choking under pressure is defined as deterioration in execution of habitual process of performance under pressure.Stereotype refers to a relatively fixed and simple view of a group, including knowledge, ideas and expectations of the group.Activating stereotype can cause achievement pressure. This research aimed to establish if the presentation of two positive stereotypes would result in choking under pressure for high identification male mathematics students.Research 1 aims to explore the optimum activation method of positive stereotype. Then, the study selected 114 male freshmen as subjects to do the study through single factor between-subject experimental design.Independent variable is a kind of activation method(three conditions:express, blatant, subtle stimulation),and the dependent variable is SEB score of subjects.Research 2 aims to explore whether individuals identified in different fields will appear choking under pressure in varying degrees of positive stereotype situations. Therefore, two experiments were adopted. In pre-experiment,131 subjects were used to test whether different types of single positive stereotype will have an impact on students' mathematics performance through single factor between-subject experimental design.Independent variable is single positive stereotype(gender stereotype, school affiliation stereotype),and the dependent variable is the mathematics performance. The Formal experiment used 177 male freshmen as subjects and conducted "2(domain identification:high domain identification, low domain identification)x 3(positive stereotype:no single stereotype, single positive stereotype, dual stereotype)"in between-subject experimental design.Among them,Domain identification and positive stereotype were the independent variables, and subjects' mathematics performances were the dependent variables.According to the results of the Research 1,t test results of male student subjects and school subjects in blatant group all reached significant level. And SEB scores in school subjects of subtle stimulation group also reached significant level.T test results of SEB scores of all types of subjects in express group were not significant.According to the results of the Research 2,subjects' mathematics performance under different types of single positive stereotype are not significant. The interaction effect of positive stereotype and domain identification was significant.High domain identification individuals got the lowest mathematics scores under dual stereotype while the main effects of positive stereotype and domain identification were not significant. To sum up,(1)Among those three activation methods, blatant has the best activation effect;(2)Different types of single positive stereotype will not have a marked impact on students' mathematics performance;(3)High domain identification subjects under dual stereotype produced choking under pressure in math performance, while low domain identification subjects under different types of positive stereotype did not produce choking under pressure.
