Geography textbook is one of the basic elements of geography classroom teaching activities.It is an important basis for teachers to carry out teaching practice and students' learning activities,and plays an important role in highlighting curriculum ideas and displaying discipline characteristics.As one of the world's most powerful education countries,Canada is committed to promoting the development of geography,and attaches great importance to the research and application of geography and geography teaching materials.This thesis takes the mainstream regional geography textbook in Ontario,Canada called Making Connections:Issues in Canadian Geography as research topic.It introduces the current situation of Geography Curriculum in Ontario Province,and analyzes the stylistic rules and layout,the three elements,content selection and other aspects of teaching materials in order to offer some proposals for the compilation of high school geography textbooks in China.Starting from the current situation of Geography Curriculum in Ontario,Canada,this paper briefly describes the current situation and characteristics of its geography curriculum,and analyzes its curriculum objectives and content goals.The curriculum standard is the important basis for the compilation of the textbook,and the teaching material is the concrete embodiment of the curriculum standard.Based on the comprehension of geography curriculum standard of 9-10 grade in Ontario Province,combined with the quantitative statistics method,the stylistic rules and layout and the three elements of teaching material are analyzed,and the characteristics of content selection are analyzed combined with the specific content of teaching material.The regional geography textbook of Ontario high school is generally constructed according to the structure of "plate-chapter-unit-section".The teaching material style has flexible structure,rigorous structure,high efficiency and wide usage.In the text system,teaching instructions are composed of "questions" and important concepts,which are enlightening;the concept of geography is highlighted in the side bars,making the text more fluent.In the image system,the number of pictures is high and the form is novel.In the homework system,students are encouraged to actively participate in geographical investigation and geographical activities in order to cultivate geographical literacy and skills.On the basis of content selection,we conclude that this textbook has the characteristics of highlighting geographical exploration and spatial meaning,attaching importance to the concept of harmony between people and land,livability,advocating teaching problem and critical thinking.On the basis of the above research,the author carried out a questionnaire survey in a four star high school international department in Nanjing,combining qualitative and quantitative analysis,put forward the following suggestions for the effective preparation of geography textbooks of China:the style of writing is flexible,more forms of the side bar set;pay attention to the teaching problem to a good heuristic teaching;combine pictures and words more closely,and more vivid and diverse forms.
