From the late 20 th century onward,an immense wave of reality shows has started to emerge and spread across the world,making it an unneglectable cultural spectacle in the contemporary world.Across the broad range of these reality shows,sports reality shows have increasingly grasped people's attention as they continuously adapt to the development of the era and seek expansion.Thanks to the opportunities arising from China's Olympic year,a large number of sports reality shows advocating national fitness have gained speedy growth in terms of either the quality or the number of these programs.As a quasi-elite group of the society,college students have keener perceptions and broader vision compared with their peers of the same age.A case study focusing on sports reality shows offers a glimpse into understanding the preferences and degrees of acceptance of this group of audience towards such programs,which can not only serve as a guidance for practices,but also possesses value for academic studies.This paper provides a concentrated discussion and study of the needs of college students as the audience of sports reality shows,which is elaborated in four chapters.The first chapter,the "introduction" part of this paper,discusses the background and significance of the study,reviews existing literature on reality shows and briefly describes the underpinning theories and methods utilized in this research.The second chapter,titled "a brief introduction of sports reality shows",clarifies the definition of a sports reality show,summarizes its basic characteristics,combs through the development course of these shows in China based on major events and related policies,and categorizes the existing sports reality shows available in China.The third chapter,titled "descriptive statistics of college students as the audience of sports reality shows",summarizes questionnaire data collected from WJX,an online questionnaire platform,in order to demographically analyze the audience structure;the audience's viewership behaviors are discussed from aspects of viewing duration,frequency,platform and preferences;the motives and needs of the audience are analyzed from the use and satisfaction points of view;the audience's attitudes are understood through degrees of sustainability,recommendation and loyalty.In the fourth chapter,titled "analysis of college students as the audience of sports reality shows",data obtained from questionnaire survey are analyzed in terms of their difference and other aspects using SPSS software.Further,a supplementary explanation to the audience study is provided to facilitate an in-depth exploration into the characteristics of college students as the audience of sports reality shows and their influences.The fifth part "conclusion" summarizes and summarizes the main points of this paper,including audience viewing behavior,audience viewing motivation,audience viewing attitude,the relationship between the audience's basic information and the audience's viewing demand.By analyzing and researching college students as the audience of sports reality shows,this paper provides true and effective feedback from the audience regarding to the survival and development of these shows.The research is expected to provide a phasic guiding basis for future development of sports reality shows and even the entire spectrum of reality show programs.
