The professional development of college teachers is an important factor to ensure the quality of higher education and realize the connotation development of higher education.The new teachers in colleges and universities are an important part of the team of college teachers.The early stage of the profession is the inevitable stage of the teacher’s career and the key period for the professional development of the teachers.Career adaptation is the biggest problem facing the new teachers in colleges and universities,and it is also the key to promoting their professional development.This study takes the new teachers of undergraduate colleges in Shanghai as the research object,mainly adopts the literature method,questionnaire survey method and interview method,obtains the status quo of the new teachers’ vocational adaptation in colleges and universities,summarizes the problems existing in the new teachers’ occupational adaptation and analyzes the reasons.On this basis,the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions are put forward.After expounding the introduction and related theories(teacher career cycle theory),this study uses questionnaires and interviews to investigate the current situation of new teachers’ occupational adaptation in Shanghai undergraduate colleges,and draws the following conclusions:First,the professional adaptability of new teachers in colleges and universities has performed well.Among them,the psychological adaptation is the best,and the teaching and research adaptation is relatively weak.Second,there are significant differences in the careers of new teachers in colleges and universities in terms of gender,teaching age,education,experience of studying abroad,and teaching.Thirdly,the new teachers in colleges and universities mainly have problems such as unsatisfactory role transformation,high adaptability to teaching,difficulty in scientific research adaptation,and slow establishment of good interpersonal relationships.Finally,it analyzes the causes of the problems existing in the new teachers’ vocational adaptation in colleges and universities,and proposes countermeasures and suggestions to improve the professional adaptation of new teachers in colleges anduniversities from three aspects: government departments,vocational schools and individual teachers.
