The academic performance of students in mathematics has always been the focus of people's attention.As a kind of negative academic emotion,math anxiety affects students' normal math study.Some high-math-anxiety students even suffer from physical discomfort.Therefore,it is necessary and urgent to find out the causes of mathematical anxiety.What on earth causes students to have math anxiety?How can we help improve students' psychological status and prevent math anxiety effectively?First of all,this study selected the Abbreviated Math Anxiety Scale.Because of its high reliability and validity,it has many different versions of translations,and the translations version also turned out to have the good nature of surveying.It is all because of these good properties of this scale,we believe it will still have good properties after translation which can be used in the study of math anxiety.After translation and revision,the scale obtained good results:the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.878,meaning that the scale has good reliability.KMO and Bartlett's test of sphericity value was 0.873,meaning that the scale has good structural validity.Factor analysis was performed to obtain two dimensions,which were consistent with the original scale.On the basis of having the research tool,this study made a research of students' current situation of math anxiety from a middle school in Suzhou industrial park,aging from the first grade to the second grade.The results showed that:(1)all the testees were at moderate to low level of math anxiety,(2)math anxiety is significantly different between grades,(3)there is gender difference between men and women.On the basis of having a general understanding of the overall level of mathematical anxiety of the students in the school,this study selected some cases for case study in order to deeply explore the causes of mathematical anxiety and put forward countermeasures.It is found that the causes of students' math anxiety mainly include students' internal factors and students' external factors.Among them,the internal factors include the imperfect knowledge system of students;student' s weak ability;students' learning purpose,motivation,attitude,concept and other factors.External factors include the characteristics of mathematics,such as abstractness,logicality,computational complexity,etc.;the factor of teachers,(e.g.the teacher's teaching method,teaching characteristic and so on);class environment,family environment factors.The various factors reflected in the case were interwoven and affected students' mathematics learning.To solve this problem,this study proposes the following strategies:(1)improve teachers'teaching methods,especially the way of classroom questioning,(2)the teachers and students work together in order to cultivate students' mathematical ability,improve students' mathematics knowledge system,(3)set up the professional psychological counseling teachers help students correctly understand the surrounding people,things,things might be in the impact of their learning,(4)help students set up correct concept of mathematics learning.
