Problem solving has always been a hot topic in educational research.The mathematics curriculum standard in China also regards the cultivation of students' problem-solving abilities as one of the goals of curriculum reform.This paper focuses on mathematical problem solving and explores the influence of problem presentation forms on students' mathematical problem solving.In this study,109 senior high school students of a public high school in Beijing were used as the research objects.The method combining test paper and questionnaire,statistical analysis and text analysis was adopted.The presentation forms of the problem are divided into three languages:written language,graphic language and mathematical symbolic language.Among them,the presentation form of written language includes two types:simple situation and complex situation.Our results show that:(1)Among the three forms of mathematical problems,the most difficult for students to solve is the mathematical problem in the form of written language,among which the mathematical problem in the complex situation is the most difficult to solve.There is little difference between the mathematical problem in the form of graphic language and mathematical symbolic language.(2)We divided the students into high group,middle group and low group according to their usual exam results,and found that both the presentation form of the problem and the complexity of the problem situation have a most significant impact on the students in the middle group,followed by the low group,and the students in the high group less affected..(3)The presentation form of the problem and the complexity of the situation affect the students' extraction of known conditions from the problem,their understanding of the target state,the association of relevant knowledge points and the students' belief system,thus affecting the students' mathematical problem solving.Based on the above research results,we give these suggestions.First,teachers should increase students' math reading training,help students rebuild their belief system,and strengthen the guidance to middle and low level students.Second,students should overcome psychological difficulties,make more summary of knowledge and experience,and use charts,mathematical symbols and others to help themselves understand the problem.
