Since the 1990s,girls' education has attracted worldwide attention.As the largest specialized agency of the United Nations system,United Nations Educational,Scientific,and Cultural Organization(UNESCO)takes gender equality as one of the global priorities,being committed to eliminating all barriers,improving the educational environment for girls,making education more accessible for girls,and improving the quality of girls' education.Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the regions with the largest gender gap in education worldwide,as well as the least developed region in terms of girls' education.Therefore,UNESCO focuses on the poor sub-Saharan Africa,systematically providing education assistance for girls in the region.In this paper,the author has done research on UNESCO's education assistance for girls in sub-Saharan Africa,which will be helpful for deep understanding of UNESCO's role in education of girls in the world.Against the background of globalization,it will also make people more aware of the necessity of international education assistance.In this paper,methods like literature,case analysis and comparison has been adopted.By collecting concrete first-hand information,like official report and project manuals of the UNESCO and recipient countries,the author makes an analysis on the background of UNESCO's education assistance for girls in sub-Saharan Africa.Basing on this,the author conducts systematic research and key project tracking of the work,further analyzing specific characteristics of the UNESCO's education assistance,so as to make objective evaluations on the result.This paper is divided into the following sections:In the introduction part,the author explains why the topic is selected and the research meaning.The relevant research results at home and abroad have been sort out and the core concepts have been defined.The author also demonstrates the research thinking and approaches,as well as summarizes the innovation and deficiencies in this paper.In the first chapter,the author describes the background of UNESCO's education assistance for girls in sub-Saharan Africa.Since the 1990s,guided by the goal of Education for All and the "Education 2030",girls' education has attracted great attention in the world.However,girls in sub-Saharan Africa have been facing a severe social environment and backward education,for which,UNESCO has actively carried out education assistance for girls in the region.In the second chapter,the author lists UNESCO's education assistance for girls in sub-Saharan Africa.In the course of assistance,UNESCO made a concrete investigation on issues related to girls' education in sub-Saharan Africa,having a comprehensive understanding of girls' education in the region.On this basis,UNESCO helped to improve girls' education in sub-Saharan Africa by holding different levels of meetings,building partnerships with institutions in and outside the region,and implementing various projects in the formal and non-formal education systems.In the third chapter,the author summarizes the features of UNESCO's education assistance for girls in sub-Saharan Africa.The features are as follows:from both the macroscopic and microscopic perspectives,effective operation of cooperation system,and full play of the recipients' subjectivity.In the fourth chapter,the author makes an evaluation on UNESCO's education assistance for girls in sub-Saharan Africa.Studies show that remarkable achievements have been made owing to this.Take a universal perspective and we can find that the work also exerted great impact on girls' education and gender equality in the world.The work conducted by UNESCO enlightened China to carry out international education assistance.China should actively participate in the work of building a community of shared future,expanding foreign education assistance,carrying out education assistance in all levels,encouraging the participation of recipient countries,and strengthening the cooperation with multilateral and bilateral institutions,so as to make great contributions for global sustainable development.
