Picture book reading is the main way for young children to access text.Picture book reading can promote children's incidental vocabulary learning.Incidental vocabulary learning in picture books refers to the phenomenon that children or children naturally acquire part of the vocabulary under the condition that picture books are used as the medium and teachers or parents do not deliberately teach vocabulary during the sharing and reading process.Sharing reading is an effective way for children to acquire incidental vocabulary.Repeatedly reading the same picture book or reading different content picture books can promote children's incidental vocabulary learning.Different reading methods have different effects on incidental vocabulary of young children.In order to compare the effects of reading with a series of picture books and repeated reading of the same picture book on children's incidental vocabulary learning under shared reading conditions.In this study,51 kindergarten children aged 5-6 were selected from a kindergarten in Tianjin.The children were divided into two groups,and 26 were read in a series of picture books(hereinafter referred to as “series”).")25.The series group read 5 series of picture books,and the repeated group read the same picture book 5 times.After the reading activity,the two groups of children's incidental vocabulary learning,story understanding,and children's reading interest scores were tested and compared.The study concludes that in terms of incidental vocabulary learning,the incidental vocabulary learning effect of the series group is better than that of the repeated group.In terms of story comprehension,the story comprehension score of the repeat group was significantly higher than that of the series group.Further analysis showed that the story comprehension score of the repeat group was significantly better than that of the series group,whether it was an explicit question score or a hidden question score.In terms of reading interest,the reading interest scores of children in the series group were significantly higher than those in the repeated group.Statistical analysis shows that children in the series group have always maintained a high reading interest.With repeated increases in the repeated group,the reading interest gradually decreases.Finally,based on the results of this study,specific educational suggestions are made for preschool teachers and parents when reading picture books to young children.
