The study of emotions is of great significance to the survival and development of human beings. As a cognitive processing method, reading is also a highly emotional experience. As one of the characteristics of vocabulary, emotionality will not only affect readers' reading, but also affect anxious readers' processing of emotional words. As a kind of cognitive processing, reading is also different in different age groups. In this experiment, eye movement technology was used to explore the processing of emotional words in reading of middle school students and college students with different state anxiety. The experiment was a 2(students' group:college students, middle school students)× 3(emotional valence: positive,neutral,negative)×2(state anxiety level: high anxiety, low anxiety)mixed design. Before the formal eyetracking experiment, participants were required to complete the State Trait Anxiety Scale in order to measure their state anxiety level. In the process of the experiment, participants were required to read the sentences containing emotional words.Questions were presented randomly to judge whether readers read the experimental materials seriously.Through experimental results and analysis,we concluded that :(1)The emotional of vocabulary will affect readers' processing of it.The processing time of positive words is shorter than neutral words and negative words.(2)Anxiety can affect readers' processing of emotional words. The processing time of high anxiety readers to negative words is longer than other conditions, while the processing time of low anxiety readers to positive words is shorter than other conditions.(3)Because of differences in cognitive development, differences in academic pressure and academic tasks faced by student groups, middle school students process vocabulary faster than college students.
