Research On Australian Cultural Soft Power

Joseph S.Nye,an American scholar,put forward the concept of soft power,"soft power refers to the ability to achieve goals through attraction rather than coercion or temptation.This attraction comes from a country's culture,political ideas and policies." Culture is the core and important component of soft power.Joseph Nye defined culture as "culture is the sum of a series of values and practices that create meaning for society".Education is a part of culture.A country shows its strength through education,thereby enhancing the country's cultural soft power.University is an important achievement of cultural development and an important platform for the construction of cultural soft power.Higher education shoulders the important responsibility of maintaining,inheriting and developing culture.It is an important foundation for creating a new culture and contacting different cultures in the world.It is also an important channel for communication with the world culture.The international competitiveness of higher education is not only a reflection of a country's educational development level,but also a platform for cultural soft power competition between countries.It has the characteristics of subtleness and great effects."Academic and technological exchanges have played an important role in strengthening the soft power of the United States," said Joseph S.Nye.Internationalization of higher education in Australia has played an important role in strengthening the soft power of Australia.Internationalization of higher education in Australia has always been in the forefront of the world,both in terms of quality and reputation.Australia's international education service industry is the largest service export project and the third largest export industry in Australia.It has been promoting the development of Australia's economy and trade,strengthening Australia's international influence and spreading Australia's cultural values through the communication and exchange of education.It can be said that the internationalization of higher education in Australia plays a key role in enhancing cultural soft power of Australian.To study cultural soft power of Australia,we must study the development of the internationalization of higher education in Australia and understand how the internationalization of Australian higher education can play a role in enhancing cultural soft power of Australia.Based on the theory of soft power,this paper analyzes the path,experience,performance,and problems of the enhancement of cultural soft power in the internationalization of higher education in Australia.Some suggestions and measures are put forward.Finally,it briefly discusses the enlightenment of internationalization of higher education in Australia on enhancement of cultural soft power by internationalization of higher education in China.
