With the advent of the era of globalization,extensive exchanges and deep connection have been established in political,economic,cultural and other fields.At the same time,we are facing unprecedented opportunities and challenges.Presently,in the educational area,developing global education is of great significance to meeting the wave of globalization,which means education needs to be considered from a global perspective and dimension.In some countries,there has been much practical probe into global citizens in the 21 st century.Most previous studies have focused on students,but teachers who play a pivotal role in guiding education and teaching activities have been ignored.To cultivate students' global competence,teachers should be globally competent at first.Canada is a multicultural and developed country with valuable lessons about cultivating teachers' global competence,and it can therefore provide some references and experience to China's reform of teacher education.This dissertation is a systematic study of cultivating and training teachers' global competence in Canada,via adopting methods of documentary analysis,case analysis and comparison analysis.The thesis starts from the society,culture and education background that reflects the reason why Canada does pay much attention to teachers' global competence.Then the paper selects four teaching professional standards to examine the relevant content of teachers' global competence,including the provinces of Ontario,Albert,Nova Scotia,and British Columbia.It can be concluded into three aspects: honouring cultural diversity,promoting equity and social justice and building a global perspective.Next,through analyzing cultivation objectives and teacher education curriculum of faculties of education in several Canadian universities,the paper finds that the main measures to cultivate teachers' global competence in pre-service stage are described as follows: fostering internationalized teachers;integrating global education into basic educational theory courses,teachable subjects,specialization focus courses and international practicum all four sorts of courses.The fourth part focuses on in-service teachers training.On the one hand,Canada implements project-oriented training model of global education.On the other hand,the relevant groups take responsibility together as well as establishing cooperation mechanism,advancing teachers' professional development.Finally,around the topic of cultivating teachers' global competence,the paper summarizes Canada'scharacteristics,reflects China's status quo and puts forward the enlightenments and suggestions.Firstly,to add and detail requirements of teachers' global competence in teaching professional standards.Secondly,to supplement global competence education in all aspects of pre-service stage.Thirdly,to strengthen development and sharing of global education resources.Fourthly,making full use of information network technology to provide online training of teachers' global competence.
