Geography curriculum standard is a programmatic document for the implementation of geography curriculum.Since the 1990 s,a wave of geography curriculum reform based on curriculum standards has swept the world,and many countries’ geography curriculum reforms are closely around the theme of "curriculum standards".Among them,the American geography curriculum standard is very representative.Therefore,a comparative study of the Chinese and American geography curriculum standards is conducive to a rational understanding of the characteristics of China’s curriculum standards,and also conducive to the internationalization of China’s geography curriculum reform.This study chooses Geography for Life:National Geography Standards,Second Edition and China’s General Senior High School Geography Curriculum Standard(2017 Edition),as the research object,and makes a systematic comparative study of the two texts in order to obtain some useful enlightenment.This research has done four aspects: firstly,it briefly combs the development process of the geography curriculum standards of senior high schools in China and the United States;secondly,it comprehensively compares the similarities and differences in the framework structure,course nature,course concept,course objectives,course content requirements and teaching requirements between the two countries;thirdly,according to the similarities and differences of two texts,it finds out the characteristics of our country’s new high school geography curriculum standard which is superior to the national geography curriculumu nderstanding of the United States;fourthly,in view of the shortcomings of our country’s new high school geography curriculum standard,through drawing lessons from the advantages of the American Geography Curriculum standard,combined with our country’s national conditions,put forward the improvement suggestions of our country’s high school geography curriculum standard.It is found that there are many similarities and differences between China and the United States in the framework structure,course nature,course concept,course objectives,course content requirements and teaching requirements,which reflect the common pursuit of advanced geographical education between China and the United States,and also show the different characteristics of geographical education between the two countries.The characteristics of Chinese high school geography curriculum standards are: providing all-round guidance for theimplementation of geography curriculum,scientifically defining the core quality and level of geography discipline,and paying attention to the accurate evaluation of geography academic qualityCombined with China’s national conditions,this paper puts forward the following suggestions for the revision and implementation of China’s high school geography curriculum standards in the future: enrich the expression form of curriculum standards,enhance the readability of curriculum standards;plan the geography curriculum as a whole,realize the gradual progress of curriculum content;integrate practical training into the classroom,promote the implementation of core literacy;refine the content requirements of curriculum standards,and play the role of evaluation criteria.
