Geography is a comprehensive science that studies the geographical environment and the relationship between man and the earth.Its outstanding feature is spatiality.Understanding the geographical environment with spatial vision and analyzing geographical problems are the key abilities to master geography.As the basic thinking of geography,geospatial thinking is an important component of the core literacy requirements of geography,and it is also one of the abilities that middle school students need to develop in learning geography.However,on the whole,there is still room for improvement in the geospatial thinking ability of middle school students,and the way to cultivate the geospatial thinking ability of students still needs to be improved.The unique spatial characteristics and powerful spatial analysis functions of GIS,such as spatial data visualization,overlay analysis,buffer analysis,and three-dimensional analysis,help middle school students establish spatial vision,conduct spatial planning,solve geographic problems,and improve spatial literacy.It has unique advantages.Therefore,it is necessary to study the application of GIS in cultivating the geospatial thinking ability of middle school students.First,based on the review and summary of relevant research at home and abroad,the text divides the dimensions of geospatial thinking ability based on the characteristics of geography disciplines and the characteristics of students’ cognitive development,and defines the concepts of each type of geospatial thinking.,Including geospatial perception thinking ability,geospatial comparative thinking ability,geospatial comprehensive thinking ability,geospatial decisionmaking thinking ability.Secondly,this article analyzes the relationship between GIS technology and geospatial thinking ability,and analyzes the correspondence between GIS functions and geospatial thinking ability,and specifically refines it to each dimension of geospatial thinking ability,thus combining the functions of GIS from four In terms of dimensionality,the advantage of training middle school students’ geospatial thinking ability based on GIS is proposed.Finally,based on the advantages of GIS in cultivating geospatial thinking ability,this article puts forward the concept of GIS-based geospatial thinking ability training,including training goals,principles,and strategies,and combines the proposed training strategies from perception,comparison,and synthesis Four major teaching cases are designed on the four dimensions of decision-making and spatial thinking,with a view to providing guidance for geoscience research in middle schools and front-line teachers for geospatial teaching.
