Since the reform and opening up,China's economy has made rapid development.China's per capita GDP was only 385 yuan in 1978,and it increased to 50251 yuan in 2015,nearly 130 times. However, the income distribution is more and more unbalanced, especially the income gap between urban and rural residents.2000 China's Gini coefficient exceeded the international warning line for the first time, reached 0.417.China's Gini coefficient was as high as 0.496 in 2014.So far,China's Gini coefficient has exceeded the international warning line for 15 consecutive years, which means that the problem of uneven income distribution has reached the situation that can not be ignored. The problem of income distribution is related to the national economy and the people's livelihood. If we can not solve the problem of income gap,it will affect the long-term stability of the society and hinder the further development of economy. In 2014 the government put forward the "new national urbanization plan(2014-2020)",we can see that the government attaches great importance to the construction of new urbanization. The new urbanization is different from the traditional urbanization,it emphasizes the improvement of the quality of urbanization. The traditional urbanization is based on the material, and the new urbanization is emphasized people-oriented,which is not only an important difference between them, but also a major change."People-oriented new urbanization" requires starting from the needs of people, and let people experience the preferential measures. It is more conducive to narrowing the urban-rural income gap.It is meaningful to study the impact of the new urbanization on the income gap between urban and rural residents.Based on the review of related literature and background,we defines the connotation of the new urbanization from four aspects of population, economy, society and environment in the first chapter. We can find the difference of tne new and traditional urbanization. In the second chapter,we selects 28 indicators to evaluate and analyze China's new urbanization development level from four angle of economy, population the social environment, and results show that the development of China's new urbanization level has increased steadily, but the regional differences since 2000.The third chapter use data of every province in China to analyze the evelopment and regional differences of income gap between urban and rural areas. In the fourth chapter, there is theoretical and empirical verification on the relationship of the new urbanization and income gap between urban and rural areas. Results showed that since the development of new urbanization in China, the income gap between urban and rural areas can be effectively reduced. The fifth chapter puts forward some suggestions on how to effectively narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas in the process of urbanization.
