Food safety has become a global basic public health issue, and it is also a big challenge faced by governments of all countries.According to the relevant report of the World Health Organization in 2017,one in 10 people each year is ill due to the unsafe food that has caused the death of up to 420,000 people, especially children under five years of age.The food safety issue is also brought to the forefront by governments in China. The reports of the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2017 claimed that the Food safety strategy should be implemented to reassure people in eating.Food safety has risen to a new level of national strategy. In fact,China has successively carried out many reforms of the regulatory system and mechanisms, and has made some good effects in response to the issue of food safety supervision since 1998.Food safety level is stabilizing and improving in a way. However, the food safety risk incidents that are still frequently occurring have aggravated the public's concerns about food safety issues. In this context, food safety regulators are burdened with major regulatory tasks and are also under pressure from all parties. This article topic stems from the consideration of the working status of food safety supervisors under the background the regulatory mechanism reform of food safety supervision.Currently, most of the researches at home and abroad on food safety supervision focus on institutional analysis, supervision behavior, countermeasures and suggestions,etc..Less researches focus on the field of human resources management of food safety supervision. Some literature mainly studied the job satisfaction of publicservants. The classification of different professions has not yet been discussed. In addition, the research on the relationship among job satisfaction, job engagement and job performance is also relatively scarce. Therefore, from the perspective of food safety regulators, this paper constructed a relationship model of job satisfaction, job engagement and job performance.Through an empirical study of 1,022 food safety regulators in Guangdong Province, the author explored the effect of job satisfaction on job performance, and analyzed whether job engagement has an intermediary effect between the job satisfaction and job performance of food safety supervisors.Additionally, the intrinsic role of the three mechanisms is analyzed thoroughly. As a result,it was found that the degree of job satisfaction and job engagement of food safety regulators in Guangdong was at an intermediate level. The empirical results are as follows.First, the job satisfaction, engagement, and job performance of food safety supervisors show some significant differences in demographic characteristics.Among them, employees of different ages and work experience have significantly different job satisfaction and engagement.Second, the job satisfaction of food safety supervisors has a significant positive impact on job engagement, and all the dimensions of job satisfaction have significant positive influence on job engagement.Thirdly, the job satisfaction of food safety supervisors has a significant positive effect on job performance. Each dimension of job satisfaction has a significant positive effect on job performance.Fourth, the job engagement of food safety supervisors has a significant positive effect on job performance. However,of the three dimensions of work engagement, only the job value dimension has a significant positive effect on job performance, while work input has a negative impact on performance.Fifth, the job engagement of food safety regulators plays a significant mediating effect between job satisfaction and job performance. Finally, based on the research results, the paper proposes targeted countermeasures accordingly.
