Urbanization is the only way for the development of industrialization and modernization, and it is an important symbol to measure the development degree of a region. The traditional extensive and expansionary urbanization mode leads to the aggravation of "urban disease" and other problems and affects the modernization process. Therefore, the new urbanization mode focusing on improving quality is the new stage of China’s urbanization development.Urban agglomeration is the main form of new-type urbanization, and its development is included in the national strategy. The Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration is the urban agglomeration with the largest development potential in the central and western regions. It is also an important demonstration area for the country to promote new urbanization, which is conducive to accelerating the comprehensive strength of the central and western regions and expanding new space for national economic growth. Therefore,it is necessary to conduct an in-depth analysis of the development level of new-type urbanization in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration, find out the development path of new-type urbanization suitable for itself, and promote the healthy and coordinated development of the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration. To this end, this paper constructs an evaluation index system for the new urbanization level of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration, takes prefecture-level cities as the research unit, adopts entropy method and exploratory spatial data analysis method to measure the new urbanization level of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration from 2010 to 2017,and analyzes the evolution characteristics of spatial and temporal pattern and spatial correlation. The research results show that:(1)In 2010-2017,the new urbanization level of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration shows an overall upward trend. The comprehensive score of the new urbanization level is from 0.286 in 2010 to 0.497 in 2017,with an average annualgrowth rate of 9.22%.According to the trend of the new urbanization level comprehensive score and annual growth rate,it is divided into two development stages:the new urbanization level shows a slow growth stage in 2010-2014,and the urbanization level develops faster in this period from 2015 to 2017.(2)There is obvious regional spatial difference in the new urbanization level of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration. The overall “core-edge” structure is presented, with “Chengdu and Chongqing main urban area” as the core and decreasing to the surrounding areas.Using the natural discontinuity point grading method in ArcGIS software, the new urbanization level of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration is divided into five grades. The number of different grade units in2010-2017 has significant spatial differentiation and fluctuating, and the number of relatively high-level zones remains.Stable, while the number of relatively low-level areas generally decreases.According to the evolution of spatial pattern,36prefecture-level cities in Chengyu urban agglomeration are divided into 6 echelons. There are significant differences in the level of new urbanization among different echelons.Among them,Chongqing’s main urban area and Chengdu have the highest level of development, while Fengdu,Tongnan and Yunyang And Ya’an and other places have the lowest level of development.(3)In 2010-2017,the new urbanization level of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration showed a positive spatial correlation, and there was a spatial agglomeration phenomenon, but the spatial agglomeration first increased and then decreased. The global Moran’s I index for 2010-2017 is greater than 0,and the expected value E(I)for the corresponding year is-0.029,and the global Moran’s I index is positively spatially correlated by the significance level test. The global Moran’s I index is small, and there is a fluctuation in the spatial agglomeration size during the eight years, which tends to increase first and then decrease.(4)In 2010-2017,the urban agglomeration level of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration has a large difference in internal spatial agglomeration, but the overall difference is shrinking. There is a high concentration trend in the hotspots and sub-hotspots,and the number of cold hotspots fluctuates, but the overall agglomeration pattern shows a relatively stable trend.Hotspots and sub-hot spots are concentrated in Chengdu and Chongqing’s main urban areas and their surrounding areas. The concentration of core cities is greater than the diffusion effect. The cold spot area isconcentrated in the northeastern part of the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration,Suining and Ziyang.Based on the above measurements of the new urban level and the evolution of the spatial and temporal pattern in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration, this paper focuses on strengthening the infrastructure construction of the urban agglomeration, strengthening the complementary linkage among the internal cities, and promoting the coordinated development of the urban agglomeration. We will accelerate the reform of urban and rural systems and promote the overall planning and integration of urban and rural areas. We will optimize the spatial structure of urban agglomerations and achieve balanced development of land, population, ecology and other factors.Optimizing regional industrial structure, accelerating industrial transformation and upgrading and other aspects to provide countermeasures and Suggestions for the future development of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration,in order to improve the quality of new urbanization development of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration.
