Globalization facilitates the development of transnational corporations.The evolving international business has also encouraged much practical need in cross-cultural management research.A huge amount of multinational enterprises has facing cross-cultural management conflicts.Existing western and eastern cultures business interaction problems created an emergency for the cross-cultural management study.Many scholars are aware of the Western and Asian market management.However,Southeast Asia is still developing international market and thus its cross-cultural management is insufficiently explored.There have been written a few research papers about Indonesian food retailer market in recent years.The cross-cultural management of the Balinese branch of Carrefour Company was studied in this paper.The Bali island retailors are estimated to be one of the most successful and popular in Indonesia.Study based on an retail enterprise located in this area would be more representative,thus of more practical significance.This study seeks to analyze the management practices of the Balinese Carrefour hypermarket to find out the cultural dissimilarities that influence the management of the enterprise.It focuses on the matter how cultural values affect management practices and employees' attitude.The major aim of the study appeared to be the analysis of cross-cultural management condition in Balinese Carrefour Hypermarket and investigation of the cultural values of Balinese and French employees to find out the reasons of cross-cultural management problems.Obtained knowledge,in complex with the theoretical background,will guide the list of recommendations management needs in order to improve cross-cultural communication and cooperation in enterprise management.The research process of this paper is based on quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis methods,while using theoretical analysis as research method to complete the paper.Quantitative research method is applied in the questionnaire survey involving 20 employees from different regions of Indonesia who work in Balinese Carrefour Hypermarket.The source of the questions is the official questionnaire designed by Geert Hofstede and Michael Minkov “The Values Survey Module 2013 Questionnaire”(VSM2013.http://www.geerthofstede.eu/).This study investigates the present situation of employees' cultural values.Descriptive statistics allows comparing and analyzing ofcultural values of respondents according to Hofstede's cultural dimensions framework.SPSS is used for analyzing the data collected from respondents.Such data collection method as focused interview is used in order to conduct qualitative analysis.Interviewing method allows us to learn management strategies in the Bali Carrefour supermarket and organizational behavior.The oral interviews were conducted among two different cultures: Balinese and French.Two Balinese and one French manager took part in the interview.The previous literature offered a theoretical stance and the direction to analyze and evaluate the data collected through these interviews.The data gives us the better understanding of the potential reasons that lead to cross-cultural conflicts,so in the future companies can avoid this problem by implementing business strategies that improve the cross-cultural difficulties,so as to improve the cross-cultural management level of multinational enterprises.Different cultural background of French and Balinese people is one of the factors why cross-cultural management conflicts appear in a scale of multinational companies.The results of the study indicated that there existed cultural conflicts between French and Indonesian cultures and that it's necessary to implement managerial strategies to release such conflicts.The findings of this study,therefore,would to some extent contribute to the already existing cross-cultural management researches.
