Under the trend of economic globalization, trade globalization, and global value chains, many countries are gradually opening up and have experienced rapid economic development. However,it cannot be overlooked that many countries have shown serious regional inequality, unbalanced spatial distribution of economic activities and the characters of industrial agglomeration.what are the factors affecting the spatial distribution of economic activities?Whether international trade and the degree of participation in the global value chain have specific influences on the spatial distribution of economic activities. These questions are worth researching. At present, domestic and foreign scholars have a lot of studies on the connection between trade and the spatial distribution of economic activities.Based on these researches, this article will focus on the phenomenon of spatial inequality of economic activities from the perspective of global value chain participation and provide political recommendations for countries.Based on the literature review of the spatial distribution of economic activities and global value chains, this paper describes the impact of trade on the spatial distribution of economic activity, and explores possible links between global value chains participation and the spatial distribution of economic activities.Based on previous research, this paper measures the spatial distribution of economic activity in 57 countries from 1992 to 2012,and selects spatial GINI coefficients, weighted coefficient of variation(WCV),and coefficient of variation(CV)as the measure. At the same time, based on the input-output analysis and the KWW measurement method of Koopman(2012),this paper calculates the participation degree of each country in the global value chain. In the empirical analysis section,a fixed effect model has been chosen for regression analysis. The result shows that there is a clear positive relationship between global value chains participation and the spatial inequality of economic activities. As the degree of participation in global value chains deepens, the spatial inequality of economic activities will increase. Finally, based on the empirical conclusions, this paper provide political recommendations for countries.
