Political skill has become the focus of scholars in recent years,which their positive promotion to individuals and organizations has become the focus of researchers.According to literature review,political skill will be “ineffective” in certain situations.Few studies have explored the mechanism of its failure.In addition,the research on the intermediary mechanism between subordinate political skill and supervisor ostracism found that the conclusions of the research between subordinate political skill and supervisor liking are inconsistent,and then the impact on supervisor ostracism needs to be further explored.Therefore,research on supervisor perceived deep-level dissimilarity is important for management practitioners.Based on the existing literature,this research will expand the research direction of political skill,exploring the relationship and mechanism of subordinate political skill with supervisor liking and supervisor ostracism through the boundary conditions of supervisor perceived deep-level dissimilarity.It’s the first time to introduce the similarity-attraction theory into the research of subordinate political skill and supervisor ostracism.Combining the social interactionist perspective,it reveals the influence of perceived deep-level dissimilarity with subordinate on the relationship between subordinate political skill and supervisor liking,and subordinate political skill through supervisor liking produces the indirect effect on supervisor ostracism.This study collects valid questionnaires including 199 matching supervisor and subordinate,empirical results show that: supervisor perceived deep-level dissimilarity plays a moderating role in the relationship between subordinate political skill and supervisor liking.When perceived deep-level dissimilarity with subordinate is greater,subordinate political skill is negatively predictive of supervisor liking.For individuals low in perceived deep-level dissimilarity with subordinate,increases in subordinate political skill will be unrelated to variation in supervisor liking;There is a negative relationship between supervisor liking and supervisor ostracism;Perceived deep-level dissimilarity with subordinate will moderate the indirect effect that employees political skill through the supervisor liking lead to supervisor ostracism.Finally,the paper summarizes the main conclusions,explains the theoretical contributions and management implications and points out the limitations of the research and directions of future research in political skill field.
