With low market occupancy of high added value steel products,steel industry overcapacity and weak market demand,steel companies of China are facing increasing pressure.In order to survive in the tough market environment,enterprise managers have to pay attention to the economy of equipment maintenance project.Lean Six Sigma has been implemented in a number of well-known domestic and overseas enterprises and has proved to be a continuous method to improve capability of process control and reduce variability rapidly and efficiently.But how to introduce and implement six sigma projects combined with the characteristics of equipment maintenance engineering to improve the ability of maintenance process and reduce cost is an important topic.(1)The LP-Kaizen opportunities are determined by work flow decomposition and C&E matrix to develop measures to eliminate the non-value-added process and find the key process indicators.(2)The project calculates the ability of the existing process and the six sigma level by run chart and process capability analysis.Then,they identify the potential causes by the cause and effect diagram,fish-bone diagram,brainstorming and other methods to identify potential causes and determining the three causes of the cost fluctuations.(3)11 potential solutions are obtained by brainstorming and SMART principles,and find out the best solutions by force field analysis and expert scoring.Then,the author makes the implementation and promotion plan by Gantt chart.Finally,the team keeps the improvement outputs by standard and process capability control tools.In this paper,the implementation process of DMAIC is discussed by the case of reducing equipment maintenance costs and proves the feasibility and effectiveness of the implementation of Lean Six Sigma Management in equipment management.
