Study On Lead Acid Battery New Product Development Basing On Stage-Gate System

As the increase rate of the global economy becomes slower and the domestic economy is also changed from rapid developing to ‘L' type developing,there are more and more challenges for the China industrial products companies.And there is also more and more requirement for these companies.Thus,the new product development is becoming more and more important.The new products developed by the companies should satisfy customers' requirement.So it would be more important that companies should have better management system for the new product development.In this paper,different management systems for new product development are discussed and compared,and considering the characteristic of lead acid battery product,stage gate system is finally adopted for the new product development for lead acid battery manufacturer.As for stage gate system,new product development are divided into four steps,and for each step,the main target,main owner,input and output are discussed.And tasks for each step are also covered in the paper.And then there would be case study to clarify how the stage gate system work in the real project at the end of the paper.The innovation of the paper is that using stage gate system to guide the new product development in lead acid battery industry and also using different tools in the development,such as QFD,FMEA,DOE and etc.All these tasks and tools are combined as a new product development management system to help the lead acid battery company to be more successful in offering better product to the market.In this paper,one case which is about new product development of front access lead acid battery for telecom market is studied to clarify how the management system work and this case could be an instruction for the lead acid battery manufacturer to develop better product for the customer.
