In the process of rapid urbanization in China, part of houses affected by the housing system reforming in the 1990 s,have exposed a lack of unified property management, poor sanitation, and extremely scarce public space, which have led to a large number of urban problems. As an important means to solve urban problems, urban renewal began in the early days of urban management of China. The urban renewal in early days of China embodies the characteristics of large-scale demolition and reconstruction, chasing economic interests. This mode of urban renewal has led to a large number of social problems such as the emigration of aboriginal residents and the deconstruction of social relationship. With the criticism of a large number of scholars, urban renewal in China has abandoned the mode of large-scale demolition and reconstruction, and turned to the micro-renewal mode, which responding to neighbourhood relationship, retaining urban culture and the atmosphere of urban life, and taking comprehensive renovation as the main means. However,in the process of practice, the micro-renewal of old residential areas is just provided by the government.Faced with the current situation of large-scale and wide-ranging of old residential areas in China, the micro-renewal funds have caused tremendous financial pressure of government, and the micro-renewal of old residential areas just supported by government financial funds is too difficult to maintain.Based on this background, this paper proposes a study on willingness to pay for micro-renewal of public space in old residential areas, aiming to provide effective theoretical basis and decision-making reference for expanding the source of funds for micro-renewal of old residential areas and establishing a long-term system for micro-renewal of public space in old residential areas.Firstly, this paper establishes the theoretical basis of the research, based on the theory of urban renewal, the theory of public goods, the theory of planned behavior and the contingent evaluation method. Then, this paper identifies the influencing factors of willingness to pay for micro-renewal of public space in old residential areas by literature review and expert interview, and puts forward research hypothesis according to the characteristics of research objects, and constructs the conceptual model of research. On this basis, the paper designs the questionnaire and scale of willingness to pay for micro-renewal of public space in old residential areas, and constructs the data analysis method system. Finally, taking Zaoyi Lane in Yuzhong District of Chongqing as an example, through face-to-face investigation to get data, and with the help of AMOS 22.0 to study the WTP for micro-renewal of public space in Zaoyi Lane. The study quantifies the average willingness to pay for micro-renewal of public space in Zaoyi Lane District,Yuzhong District,Chongqing City, with a result of 94.39 yuan per household. At the same time, the study finds that age, monthly average income of household and educational level are significantly correlate with WTP.And there are significant internal differences exist in groups of age, monthly average income of household and educational level.Through the analysis of sample data by structural equation model,it is proved that adding EC and PMO to the original theory of planned behavior is an effective supplement in the research of WTP for public space micro-renewal in old residential areas. The results show that EC have a direct impact on the willingness to pay for micro-renewal of public space in old residential areas;secondly,EC have different degrees of impact on residents' willingness to pay through SN,BA and PMO.In addition, the study found that subjective norm is an indispensable factor for EC to indirectly affect the willingness to pay for micro-renewal of public space in old residential areas.
