A Study Of The Influence Of Emerging Enterprise Exploratory Innovation And Exploitative Innovation On The Innovation Performance

With the advent of the era of knowledge economy,knowledge management and knowledge innovation have drawn more and more attention from enterprises and their innovation activities have become the one of the key factors to improve their competitive abilities.In the process of enterprise innovation,they often need to choose and weigh different types of innovation models,including the choosing and balancing the exploratory innovation activities and exploitative innovation activities.Since the exploratory innovation activity is a kind of fundamental,breakthrough innovation practice,which is focused on the future development of enterprises,while the exploitative innovation is mainly to improve the existing products and services,the purpose is to improve the efficiency of the enterprise for the short-term interests.Therefore,the exploratory innovation activities and exploitative innovation activities need to match with different organizational structures since they often form the conflict.In this case,how to improve the performance through balancing the exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation activities has gradually got the attention of the academia and business practice.After reviewing the previous studies,it can be found that since March(1991)put forward the concept of learning and exploitative learning for the enterprise,the relationship between exploration and exploitation and the corporate performance has always been the focus of scholars.Many scholars have expounded the relationship of enterprise exploratory and exploitative activities and the enterprise performance,and a lot of inconsistent views and conclusions have carried out on how to balance enterprise exploration and exploitative activities to promote the promotion enterprise's performance,However,these studies do not have a further study of the relationship between enterprise exploratory innovation activities and exploitative innovation activities and the from enterprise performance from the perspective of knowledge management.Combined with the feature of the emerging enterprises,this research has explored how can emerging enterprises acquire external knowledge and information resource servicing for different patterns of innovation and make use of these resources for the matching of enterprises innnovation models and target market selection from the views of acquisition and utilization of external knowledge resources in the era of knowledge economy,open innovation and network environment.Specifically,in the era of knowledge economy,open innovation has become more and more important for enterprise,companies often need to get knowledge and resources outside of the enterprise to service for enterprise innovation.In this case,the cooperation with external partners,including the industry value chain partners of vertical coupling relations,will produce significant influence to enterprise's innovation activities.At the same time,the development of knowledge economy era network makes the information communication technology widely used in enterprise's production and operation process,which will have important influence on enterprise's innovation activities,therefore,it is necessary to further explore how to mot the most of the enterprise' ICT capability to promote innovation performance.In addition,in a more open market environment,the enterprise' market diversification strategies also need to match with different innovation types,then how the market diversity strategy will affect enterprise exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation activities and enterprise innovation performance still needs to have further research.As for the above regulating mechanism which could affect the relationship of exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation and the enterprise innovation performance,the previous researches have seldom involved and are also lack of specific empirical analysis.At the same time,the previous researches on enterprise exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation activities have focused more on mature and benchmarking type enterprises,and less are focused on emerging enterprises who are at the early and growth stages,while the innovation activities are crucial for the survival and development of the emerging enterprise.Based on the above consideration,this study has carried out the following questions,under the background of open innovation and networked,for emerging enterprises,how to carry out effective knowledge management?How will the relationship between the industry value chain partners and emerging enterprise will affect enterprise's exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation activities?At the same time,as for the emerging enterprises,how can they make the most of the ICT abilities to service for the exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation activities?How to make the enterprise exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation activities match the market diversification strategy to improve the business performance?In order to answer these questions,this research has a detailed analysis of the relationship between the exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation activities and the enterprise innovation performance of China's 821 emerging enterprises on the basis of reviewing the existing research,combining with the related theory of knowledge innovation and under the background of open innovation and networked environment.First of all,after reviewing and summarizing the previous studies,this research has put forward the five basic assumptions on the basis of theory of literature.According to these assumptions,this research has constructed the theoretical model.Secondly,based on Chinese companies from the World Bank group operating data,the research object of this research covers the detailed descriptive statistical analysis and correlation analysis.In addition,in order to verify the hypothesis of this article,this study constructed the Tobit regression model to conduct the empirical analysis based on the characteristics of variable data.Through the analysis,it has found out that:both exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation will have positive influence on innovation performance in emerging enterprises,while emerging enterprises simultaneously carry out the exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation will have a negative impact on the promotion of innovation performance;Under the background of open innovation,the vertical coupling relationships between the emerging enterprise and the industry value chain partners will positively affect the influence of exploratory innovation on innovation performance,and negative affect the influence of exploitative innovation on innovation performance;Under the networked environment,the emerging corporate ICT abilities will have positive influence on the relationships between the exploratory innovation and the innovation performance of the emerging enterprises,meanwhile,the ICT abilities also have positive impacts on the relationship between exploitative innovation and enterprise innovation performance;Market diversification will be positively affect the influence of the exploratory innovation on innovation performance,nevertheless,it will have no significant effect on the relationship between the exploitative innovation and the innovation performance of the emerging enterprises.After making an empirical analysis of the basic hypothesis of this research,this research has test the robustness of the results through the robustness test.Specifically,this study has divided the enterprises into two part based on different areas to further test the hypotheses and the results have indicated that the results of previous Tobit regression is robust.In conclusion,this study is based on knowledge management theory.After combining with enterprise exploration innovation and exploitative innovation activities,open innovation,enterprise ability of ICT,market diversification and other relevant theories and views,this research has went into depth analysis of the impact and function mechanism of emerging enterprises exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation on innovation performance,according to literature review and theoretical deduction.,meanwhile,this research has explored the regulation impact the enterprise and industry value chain partners' vertical coupling relations,corporate ICT abilities,and the market diversification.As for the theoretical significance of this study,this study has looked in to the knowledge management theory,and further revealed the relationship between exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation and innovation performance and its mechanism.Moreover,this paper expounds the effect of balancing the exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation on enterprise innovation performance,and has further analyzed the regulating mechanism of the relationship between exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation and the innovation performance under the open innovation and networked environment,which has filled blank of the existing literature field on activities of exploration and exploitation and has important theoretical significance.From the management practice,this research how to carry out exploratory innovation activity and exploitative activities for emerging enterprises,especially offering a certain reference for enterprises on how to make use of external resources and information and communication technology innovation service,which has a profound practical significance.For the insufficiency in the research,it expects these can further improved in follow-up studies.At the same time,this study also provides a certain reference the future research on enterprise exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation.
