Study On The Impact Of Urban Co-Opetition On The Urban Development In The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

Nowadays the urban developments in the global context are experiencing diversified transformations;the new urban development patterns such as urban agglomerations and bay area do constitute the crucial pivots of new urbanization as well as the important carrier for countries to engage in international competition global & regional integration.From the simple geographic connections to the complex urban-regional governance,a portfolio of cooperation and competition among different member cities in the agglomerations gradually rise,with various production attributes(human resource,capital and goods etc.)optimally distributing in regional scale.Meanwhile,in conformity with the general trend of agglomeration and respective comparative advantages,the member cities also attempt to design and implement a series of urban policy & planning as governance instrumentals,so as to gear the urban co-opetition relations to different orientations;both cooperation orientation and competition orientation do impose great impacts on the urban development to certain extents.As a major national strategy of urban agglomeration,the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area consisting 11 member cities characterizes itself with diversity,maturity and intensiveness in terms of urban development pattern.The evolving co-opetition relations in the bay area play significant role in promoting the general competitiveness.In this regard,the bay area would be identified as an unique pilot of advancing urban development in agglomeration context.Based on literature review,this paper attempts to measures the urban co-opetition of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area from 2010 to 2017 in terms of both intensity dimension and direction dimension;to go further,the paper pursues regression analysis,with endogenous competitiveness(competition-orientation)and exogenous competitiveness(cooperation-orientation)as two independent variables,and the urban competitiveness as dependent variable,so as to explore the impact of urban co-opetition of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area on urban development.Finally,on basis of the regression analysis and competitiveness evaluation results,several policy proposals are concluded for the purpose of promoting the development and governance of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
