According to China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission,there are more than 4,500 banking and financial institutions in China.Among these financial institutions are the four major state-owned banks,medium-and small-sized joint-stock banks,urban commercial banks,rural credit cooperatives,foreign banks and post savings banks that are engaged in intense competitions.Presently,a variety of commercial banks in China have made considerable achievements in operations and development,and rapidly expanded their sizes and competitiveness.However,state-owned banks in China have been experiencing serious talent turnovers in recent years.In particular,the turnover rates of knowledge workers,including highly educated individuals,middle-level managers and backbone professionals,have been rising over years.The majority of these talents have shifted their employers to foreign banks and medium-and small-sized private joint-stock banks as these institutions usually offer lavish incentives such as high levels of compensation and benefits that are appealing to knowledge workers of state-owned commercial banks,including chief executives,senior client managers and backbone professionals.This paper presents a case study of sub-branch bank S of the Agricultural Bank of China,a questionnaire survey approach,in combination with modern enterprise management theories and methodologies,is applied to conduct an in-depth analysis and research of corporation management from the perspective of knowledge worker management.By exploring the current human resources status,causes of employee turnover and influences of turnover of the sub-branch bank S,this paper analyzes the causes of knowledge worker turnover from three aspects,namely,macro-environment,internal organizational environment and individual knowledge workers;the losses arising from knowledge worker turnover are also analyzed from explicit and implicit perspectives.After analyzing the factors and losses associated with the turnover of bank knowledge workers,this paper further proposes strategies to retain knowledge workers from a management perspective,by improve the salary and welfare system,attach importance to the construction of organizational culture,improve the democratic management system,and help employees achieve self-realization.
