With global political, economic and social changes, the global pattern of agricultural development was undergoing a deep adjustment, and changes in the structure of supply and demand in agricultural markets and insufficient incentives for agricultural growth continued to plague many countries with food security problems.Reading and summarizing the extensive literature found that potatoes have the advantages of high yield, rich nutrition and suitability. With the combined effects of climate change, resource constraints and growing efficiency, potatoes were an important crop for achieving global food security strategies in the new context. In Africa, poverty and hunger remained pressing in many countries, with rapid population growth, large food gaps and low per capita income. An analysis of hunger coefficients, population projections, income levels and food supply data in African countries showed that African countries were still suffering from severe food insecurity, with low incomes unable to meet the basic needs for food and facing future population growth pressures. There was therefore an urgent need for African countries to address the issue of food security. An analysis of the constraints to potato development in Africa through the GAEZ model showed that the level of agricultural inputs, agricultural resources, and agricultural technology were the main factors limiting potato development in African countries.Potential yields of potatoes increase with the level of agricultural inputs;potato production also showed a very different profile under different resource conditions, for example, water resources, where irrigation could significantly increase the area and land adaptability of adapted potatoes in Africa than rain-fed;agricultural technology was directly related to potato production, and the number of potato researchers in different countries showed a high correlation with potato yields.Comparing yields of potato, rice and wheat in African countries with world averages,it could be seen that the yield potential of potato is greater than that of other crops. In terms of nutrition, the supply capacity of potatoes in African countries was also below the world average, and there was much room for improvement.Potatoes also had a higher correlation with income compared to consumption of potatoes, cereals, and rhizomes.Comparing the net value of potatoes, maize, rice and wheat, one could see that potatoes have the best returns. The feasibility of developing the potato industry in African countries was demonstrated through an analysis of the natural conditions of potato production, the structure of food consumption, the level of agricultural technology and the returns to farmers in Africa.Ethiopia and Egypt were selected as typical cases, and detailed data are used to analyze the restrictive factors and feasibility of potato development in Africa from a micro perspective.Analysis of the hunger factor, the number of undernourished people, and net income per capita showed that Egypt and Ethiopia, like most African countries, still faced serious food security problems. It was also restricted by the level of agricultural input, agricultural resources, and agricultural technology to the development of its potato industry.Through the analysis and processing of the survey data: from the perspective of income, comparing the output value and profit rate of potato per unit area with other major crops, the performance of potatoes is better. In terms of cost, the fertilizers, pesticides and improved varieties used in potato production were also lower than those of cereal crops, and the labor requirements were also lower. It was a low-cost and high-yield crop suitable for small farmers. Therefore,it was feasible to develop potatoes in Africa.Using statistical data on the development experience of our potato industry to sort out,our potato productivity level, the level of technology could fully meet the current needs of African countries potato development.African countries,on the other hand, had a large potato market. The resource and economic complementarities between China and Africa made Sino-African agricultural cooperation of long-term strategic importance.Cooperation between China and Africa had great potential in terms of natural resources, markets, labour, etc.Based on the various factors limiting the development of the potato industry in African countries, the foundation of our potato industry and the potential for China-Africa cooperation, this paper proposed a specific path for China-Africa cooperation: the extension of the potato industry chain in African countries through the development of production technology cooperation and the participation of multiple subjects.Using China-Africa cooperation in the potato industry as an entry point, the country's experience in potato development will be used to activate the potential of China-Africa cooperation in the potato industry to help African countries break through constraints and address food security issues.
