The world is now facing the eve of a new round technology revolution: nanotechnology,alternative energy,biotechnology and genetic engineering,new materials,artificial intelligence and the Internet of things are rapidly developing,about to achieve massive breakthroughs and industrialization development.How to "promote the innovation development of a given industry by taking advantage of the interaction between science and technology knowledge" is a proposition that any country must attach importance to.This paper chooses the field of synthetic biotechnology to discuss the problem.Synthetic Biotechnology,which is laying in the golden age of development,is a great combination field promoted by all aspects of the new technological revolution and one of the key scientific and technological fields that our country's planning to ensure significant development.Because of this subject's great potential in material production,cancer treatment,food cultivation and energy supply,plenty of countries have joined the technological competition track in this field.Detailing the technical landscape of this field and revealing its theoretical enlightenment through empirical evidence will help our country to seize the important opportunity in order to stand out in the international science and technology competition of synthetic biotechnology.This project starts from the research on the technological development of synthetic biotechnology,using 1385 major patent families with more than 40 000 references and more than 30 000 technical papers cited by the major patent families.An innovative strategy is used to construct structured data of "(patent)—(science knowledge combination & technology knowledge combination)",and then natural language processing paradigm,combined with LDA models and bibliometric methods,are adopted to depict the technological landscape of synthetic biotechnology,including the evolution of research topics,the time lag of sciencetechnology knowledge,the separation and change of knowledge base science and technology knowledge.After a certain understanding of the technological development in the field of synthetic biology,combined with the theory to make theoretical assumptions,the use of empirical methods to contribute to the relevant theory.The main conclusions and research findings are divided into two parts :(1)technology picture description part: science-technology interaction in synthetic biology field is fairly frequent,the importance of different dimensions of knowledge has been increasing,the relationship changes no longer show a simple linear pattern,but turns to be mutually-guided and complicate.The interacted relationship is also reflected in the evolution of the three main characteristic topics in this field: science-led basic operating object structure recognition;technical operation means brought about by cell receptor and antibody-based functional design,based on polymerase and other biological "tailoring tools" functional design "status change.(2)Theoretical and empirical section: Conclusion 1 is that in interdisciplinary disciplines,the two route of improving patents' quality —— deeply combined with relevant scientific knowledge or in line with the trend of technology market can bring the expected effect,and this conclusion expands the theoretical boundary of different innovation paths to improve the utility of patent quality.Conclusion 2 is the "similarity" of different dimensions in the knowledge base of highly interdisciplinary subjects,which represents the reduced knowledge heterogeneity and has a negative effect on the improvement of patent quality,especially when the technology complexity is high.
