Analysis Of The Influencing Factors Of The Export Competitiveness Of Philippine Agricultural Products

The development of the Philippines agricultural trade has steadily improved over the years,with the continual increase of both its total trade volume and market position.However,there are still some persistent issues in its development,such as weak competitiveness and low overall market share.In order to evaluate the competitiveness of Philippine agricultural trade,this paper analyzed the overall situation of Philippine agricultural exports and the export competitiveness of three major agricultural products: banana,coconut oil,pineapple and products,which includes performing comparative advantage analysis,market share analysis and trade competitiveness index analysis.Furthermore,regression analysis was performed on the factors influencing the export competitiveness of Philippine agricultural products as well as three of its major agricultural products.This paper initially analyzed the development of agricultural trade in the Philippines which includes analysis of natural resource endowment,agriculture sector position in the Philippines economy,agricultural support policies set by the government,production,export and import of Philippines agricultural products,and commodity structure and export market structure of agricultural trade in the Philippines.In addition,analysis of the export situation and development of banana,coconut oil,pineapple and products was also performed.Secondly,in the context of the above analysis,this paper used three indices:revealed comparative advantage index,market share index and trade competitiveness index to analyze the market competitiveness and market share of Philippines banana,coconut oil,pineapple and products export.Export competitiveness of Philippine agricultural products was also compared with that of other ASEAN countries.Results indicate that the market competitiveness of Philippines banana,coconut oil,pineapple and products export is strong,but the overall export competitiveness of Philippine agricultural products is relatively weak,belonging to the middle and lower level inASEAN.Thirdly,this paper uses multiple regression analysis model to study the factors influencing the competitiveness of Philippine agricultural products in the international market,and finds several main factors,which are the import of agricultural products,the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides,the exchange rate,the use area of cultivated land,and the proportion of agricultural employment population in the total employment population.The main factors influencing the market competitiveness of banana,coconut oil,pineapple and pineapple products are the change of international market price and the change of Philippine Peso against the US dollar.Finally,based on the results of the analysis,this paper puts forward corresponding relevant policy suggestions,such as improving the variety structure;strengthening infrastructure,improving the agricultural production conditions;maintaining agricultural industry chain,increasing agriculture added value;and deepening international agricultural cooperation.
