| Promoting the coordinated development of regional economy is an important strategic goal and a long-term arduous task of our country.Since the reform and opening up,the level of economic and social development of the country has risen rapidly, but the gap of regional economic development is also growing. This is not only reflected in the widening economic gap between the eastern coastal and inland areas, but also in the increasingly prominent economic gap within each region. At the same time,China’s transportation industry is developing rapidly,it has made important contributions to the normal operation of the economy and society and to the daily convenient travel of the people,it also provides an important way for regional exchanges and interactions, which profoundly affects the allocation of resources among regions and the coordination and balanced development among regions. Therefore,it is of great significance to understand the impact of traffic development on regional economic disparity and its differences in order to optimize the structure of traffic development and promote regional coordinated development. On the basis of relevant research, this paper explores the influence of transportation development on regional economic disparity a nd its spatial spillover effect, exploring the internal mechanism from the perspective of spatial spillover effect.Using panel data of relevant provinces and cities in China from 2001 to 2015,to examine the current situation of China’s transportation industry an d regional economic disparities,on the basis of fully considering the differences of factor endowments within and between provinces, the paper constructs a spatial durbin model of the impact of traffic development on regional economic disparity, empirical analysis of the impact of traffic development on regional economic disparity and its spatial spillover effect, analyzed the impact of traffic development changes on inter-regional economic disparities during 2001-2015 from the overall level and multiple subdivisions. The results show that:(1)On the whole, the development of transportation has narrowed the economic gap between regions in China and promoted the balanced development of regional economy.(2)Specifically,transportation infrastructure enlarges the disparity of economic development among regions and has polarization effect; In terms of transport efficiency, passenger turnover has widened the regional economic gap, however, freight turnover is helpful to narrow the regional economic gap and has a diffusion effect.(3)Among the spatial spillover effects of traffic development on regional economic disparities, the indirect effect is greater than the direct effect, and the proportion is generally higher than 60%;the radiation radius of space spillover effect is about 1000 km.(4)Regionally,the polarization effect of transportation infrastructure on regional economic disparity is significant in all regions, passenger turnover has polarization effect on the economic development gap between eastern and central regions, and diffusion effect on the economic gap in western regions, freight turnover is conducive to narrowing the economic gap in the eastern region, but it will widen the economic gap between the central and western regions.Based on the research conclusion, and combining with the reality of China’s development, this paper points out that relevant departments should improve the level of transportation infrastructure in a targeted way, make up the short board, construct the network of transportation facilities for regional harmonious development, improve transportation efficiency, improve the development of transportation market, utilizing spatial spillover effect effectively, enhance the coordination, effectiveness and robustness of interregional economic development, improve the government’s policy-oriented role, narrow the economic gap between regions, promote regional economic balance, find a new road of harmonious development. |
