The rapid development of urban cities cannot leave the beneficial geographic location advantage and abundant resources of Marine port alone. The related research literature on relationship between port activity and regional economy mostly ignored the impact of spatial characteristics factors on economy, although a few recent related literatures considered the spatial spillover effect of port but cannot handle the endogeneity problem between port and regional economy. To alleviate the flaw on the theoretical analysis and empirical research method, this paper selects the panel data of 26 cities from 2011 to 2015 in Yangtze River Delta to construct spatial econometric model, which considers the auto-correlation of regional economy according to the main ideas in the new economic geography theory. The paper employs both geographical distance weight matrix and economic distance weight matrix so as to measure the direct spillover and indirect spillover effect of ports cargo transportation on regional economy in Yangtze River Delta more effectively. The thesis primarily contains five points:introducing spatial spillover effects mechanism of port transportation;illustrating the principle of Spatial econometrics and basic types of model, containing Spatial Lag Model,Spatial Error Model and Spatial Durbin Model;describing the current situtation of the cities and ports in Yangtze Delta Region;based on the Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis approaches, the thesis takes advantage of Moran's I index to explore the spatial correlation between regional economic growth;dependent and independent variables of spatial lag introduced into spatial panel data econometric model, the paper discusses the impact of port on port cities as well as the non-port cities in Yangtze Delta Region under spatial dependence effect and combination of other economic factors. The results indicate that the development of regional economy has obvious spatial correlation and port has non-negligible effects on regional economic growth. The spatial spillover effects of ports accelerate the regional economy growth and the degree of spatial agglomerationThe indirect effect of port development on surrounding areas is larger than the direct effect on local economy, port cargo transportation in surrounding area has a significant effect on the local as well.Starting from spatial autocorrelation of the port and the regional economy, the research conclusion not only contributes to the theory of relationship between port and regional economy but also guides the government to make right port investment decisions and regional economy policies. The research findings are beneficial to the stable and coordinate development of regional economy.Furthermore,It is theoretical and practical useful in shortening the gap between port cities and non-port cities.
