In order to better and faster meet customer needs,companies are more focused on product innovation than ever before.Each step of the development process has a significant impact on the quality or speed of the new product before the final-product is officially launched.A company with well-managed development process can get rich market returns through new products.Imperfect and inflexible process management leads to product failure,which can make significant losses for enterprise.At present,the empirical research on new product development process management for small and medium-size enterprises is still insufficient.Therefore,this study analyzes the application of the Agile and State-Gate model in product development and meeting customer needs for start-ups,and proposes an optimization strategy for the product development process.This study investigates the management of the new product development process of M Company.To begin with,the industry background of the network security visualization and its related technology trends and challenges are analyzed.After brief introduction on the market competition and organizational capabilities of M product,the strategic goals and assessment methods for new product development have been planned.Then,through in-depth enterprise practice,some critical issues that directly affect the quality and speed of new product development,including severe demand spread,slow iteration speed and weak version control,etc.,are sorted out.By using 5-Why analysis method,the root causes of new product development process management of M company are concluded.These root causes are the lack of audit standards and methods at the checkpoints between process stages,inflexible product development and testing methods,and irregular software change management.Finally,taking the methods of agile and stage-gateway product development process as the blueprint,this paper has performed a quantitative evaluation on the developed function list of development backlog through the analytic hierarchy process,and also prioritized the function list to serve as a decision-making tool for stage-gateway.This paper has adopted agile concepts such as rapid iterative development and minimum viable product to optimize the management process of new product development of M company to improve efficiency and achieve new product strategy.In the early stage of new product development,M Company successfully gained a breakthrough in the market through free exploration.However,some problems have existed in the management of the new product development process,which gradually weakened its competitive advantage.M company promoted both speed and quality of the product development by adopting the agile and stage-gate method to optimize the product development flow.Therefore,this study can provide valuable guidance to some innovative enterprises characterized by new product development.
