An Empirical Analysis On The Influence Of Import Complexity On Export Complexity Of Chinese Processing Trade Enterprises

Since the reform and opening up,China's economy has been developing at a breakneck pace and has made a leap from a backward country to the world's second largest economy.International trade competition is increasingly fierce and the trade environment is not optimistic.In this context,it is not advisable to occupy the international market simply by increasing the share of exports.It should be considered from the perspective of promoting the upgrading of industrial value chain of China and cross-border integration with the Internet to improve the quality of export products and optimize the export structure.Due to the special trade mode of processing trade enterprises--import and re-export,the technical level of processing trade enterprises is greatly affected by the technical complexity of imported products theoretically.The purpose of import is to export.Therefore,based on the existing research on export complexity,this paper focuses on analyzing the impact of import complexity on it.First of all,this paper makes a theoretical analysis of the mechanism of effect of import complexity on export complexity.It expounds technology spillover effect,variety growth effect,import competition effect and factor reorganization effect respectively.Secondly,the complexity measurement index proposed by Hausmann(2007)was used to calculate the complexity of the import and export products of Chinese processing trade enterprises and the import and export complexity of 1,787 processing trade enterprises.Then this paper analyzes the development status of Chinese processing trade enterprises and their technological complexity.Finally,through the establishment of static and dynamic panel models,this paper conducts an empirical analysis of the factors affecting the export complexity of Chinese processing trade enterprises.The results showed that import complexity and financial development of processing trade enterprises have a significant promoting effect on the increase of export complexity.Foreign direct investment and human capital will restrain exports technology level.Economic development level and r&d spending influence on export complexity associated with enterprise type.Economic development has a significant promoting effect on foreign-funded enterprises.For non-foreign-funded enterprises,there is a negative effect but not significant.Research and development expenditure is helpful to promote the technological upgrading of non-foreign-funded enterprises,but has a restraining effect on foreign-funded enterprises.In the face of fierce international competition,the development of Chinese processing trade enterprises should be committed to get rid of the status of low-tech and low value-added production.Have a selection of imported intermediate goods and pay attention to improve the quality of imported intermediate products.We should encourage technological innovation,fundamentally solve the technical constraints of developed countries and actually improve the international status and competitiveness of Chinese enterprises.
