With the continuous deepening of social division of labor, producer services are gradually separated from manufacturing.Producer service industry, with its high added value and knowledge technology intensive characteristics, occupies the core leading position in the manufacturing industry chain. Its "booster" role in the process of high-end manufacturing industry is increasingly obvious, and gradually becomes the pillar of industrial development and the engine of economic development.Accelerating the development of producer services, promoting its sound integration with the manufacturing industry, transforming the "dependent" development of producer services in the manufacturing industry chain into "leading" development, and implementing the strategy of transition from "demand dependent" to "development led".These are not only to implement the relevant policies of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, but also to actively adapt to the needs of leading the new normal of economic development and promoting the supply side structural reform, and to promote the transformation and upgrading of China's industrial structure and to comply with the high-quality development trend of the service industry.Under the circle level structure of urban agglomerations, the division mode of producer services begins to show a more obvious "hierarchical" feature. Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to analyze the impact of hierarchical division of producer services on manufacturing efficiency. In this context, this paper takes 15 prefecture level cities in the "9+6" integrated development of Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration from 2003 to 2017 as research samples, and systematically expounds the production mechanism of hierarchical division of producer services and the impact mechanism of hierarchical division on manufacturing efficiency.Based on the analysis of current situation, this paper makes a comprehensive empirical study on the impact of hierarchical division of producer services on manufacturing efficiency. The empirical part is divided into four steps:Firstly, using Moran's I index to analyze the spatial correlation between hierarchical division of labor and manufacturing efficiency.Secondly, the SDM model based on spatial measurement uses step-by-step regression to test the impact of hierarchical division of producer services on manufacturing efficiency.Thirdly, using the method of three-dimensional impulse response analysis, the two-way interactive relationship between them is revealed to further identify the core leading position of producer services in the manufacturing industry value chain. Finally, using the two-dimensional robustness test method of the replacement of explained variables and the replacement of threshold effect model, taking the economic development level as the threshold value, the accuracy and reliability of the empirical results are tested. At the same time, the expansibility reveals the heterogeneity differences of the level of economic development of all cities in the urban agglomeration in the impact of hierarchical division of labor on the efficiency of manufacturing industry. After research, the following important conclusions are obtained:Firstly,by 2017,the producer service industry in the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration has basically formed a new division pattern of "core diversification-edge specialization",with obvious hierarchical division in each city.On the whole, the hierarchical division of labor centers around five core urban areas, including Shenzhen,Foshan,Zhuhai and Dongguan, which are led by Guangzhou. With the hierarchical structure of each city,it shows a decreasing trend of "gradient shift".Secondly, the technological efficiency of manufacturing industry in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomerations shows an overall "inverted U" trend of time change, with 2007-2012 as the decline period, which is caused by the financial crisis.During the whole period from pre crisis to post crisis, the urban agglomeration has completed the span from Dongguan City and Shenzhen City as the core areas to Dongguan City,Shenzhen City,Guangzhou City and Foshan City as the core areas.Thirdly, the hierarchical division of producer services in the Pearl River Delta urban agglomerations has obvious spatial spillover effect, which depends on the vertical division effect, network structure effect and vertical cooperation effect under the diversified division mechanism,as well as the learning effect, cooperation competition effect and human resource "reservoir" effect under the specialized division mechanism, which has a significant improvement effect on the technical efficiency of the manufacturing industry. In addition, the hierarchical division of labor and manufacturing efficiency affect and promote each other. In comparison, the hierarchical division of producer services has a stronger influence on manufacturing efficiency.Fourthly,in the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration, the heterogeneity of urban economic development level has a significant impact on the promotion of manufacturing efficiency by the level of hierarchical division of productive services. If the level of urban economic development is divided into three levels: high level, medium level and low level,it can be found that the piecewise linear structure basically presents the trend of "reverse Z-shaped",and the promotion effect of hierarchical division of labor on manufacturing efficiency is the best in the cities with medium level of economic development, while the promotion range of manufacturing technical efficiency in the cities with high level and low level of economic development is relatively slow. Finally, the research also puts forward countermeasures and suggestions, such as the development of industry in accordance with local conditions, giving full play to the comparative advantages of cities, eliminating institutional barriers, strengthening the division of labor and cooperation between cities, building an industrial information service platform, and promoting the intelligent upgrading of traditional manufacturing industry.
