The development of economic globalization has led to the rapid rise of economic organizations represented by multinational corporations. The international labor division experienced the division between industries, division within the industry and division within products.Although joining the global production system can bring opportunities and developments to developing countries,it also enables multinational companies in developed countries to use their own advantages to transfer some high-energy,low-value-added and low-profit industries to developing countries. In the process of participating in the global manufacturing division of labor,China mainly provides products with low added value and low profit, and it is difficult to obtain higher profit returns.Studying the development status of China's manufacturing industry and the driving factors of industrial upgrading have certain value for the development of China's manufacturing industryFirst, this paper introduces the theory of international labor division and global value chain, which including the traditional international labor division, the new international labor division, the development of global value chain, the characteristics of global value chain and the methods to measure the participation of global value chain. Then, analyzes the development of China's manufacturing industry and its participation in global value chain.Due to the difference between manufacturing industry, this paper classifies them into labor-intensive industries,capital-intensive industries,technology-intensive industries, and calculate vertical specialization indices. After that, explores the driving factors of China's manufacturing industry upgrading, industrial upgrading is a complicated system engineering, which requires cooperation in many aspects such as human resources, innovation environment and institution. On the basis of theoretical analysis, establishes empirical models to analysis the technical factors, resource factors, foreign trade factors and institutional factors,it is found that the number of patent applications, senior human capital and vertical specialization can effectively promote the upgrading of China's manufacturing industry Because of the heterogeneity between different types of manufacturing industries, the degree of influence of the same variable on different industries is quite different. Finally, puts forward corresponding suggestions:break the low-end lock of labor-intensive industries and build domestic independent value chain;improve foreign investment in capital-intensive industries;strengthen the cultivation of senior talents in technology-intensive industries.
