This thesis consists of three essays. The first essay, "Timing of Motherhood and Economic Growth", analyzes a mother's decision of when to have a child, in a calibrated model that takes into account economic growth and human capital investment before and after motherhood. In the second essay, "Asset Pricing, Portfolio Decisions in an Incomplete Market", I examine an agent's portfolio decision over the life cycle, and study the influence of incomplete market structure on asset pricing and age-specific decisions. In the third essay, "Elderly Asset Management", I examine the influences of bequest motive, medical expenses, and housing equity to the elderly in their asset allocation decision-making. |
