Abstract/Summary:
Changing economic conditions, reduced budgets, workforce adjustments and growing public demands are resulting in increased workloads and continuous adaptation for employees at the Child Care Subsidy Service Centre (CCSSC). Consequently, leadership asks how best to balance work and life in this new environment. This Organizational Leadership Project (OLP) through the lens of appreciative inquiry using action research inquired into work-life balance practices. Through three focus groups consisting of three phases, the research asked, "How can management and staff at the CCSSC enhance work-life balance?" The report concluded that employees enhance work-life balance through self-assessment, self-management, self care, and job satisfaction. Employers enhance the quality of work and life through a non-work intensified environment, sharing of information, better communication, and by finding modern service delivery methods around the existing antiquated legislation. To sustain work-life balance, the organization may look at reducing work time, reconfiguring the workspace and improving air quality.
