In a context marked by the rise of the concept of "entrepreneurship" in the political discourse and electoral platforms of government leaders across Latin America, it is increasingly important to gain a better understanding of how local governments in the region have integrated the promotion of private entrepreneurship as a central element of their policies. This study adopts a public policy analysis approach to address this timely issue. I first engage with the literature on entrepreneurship promotion in developing countries from a public policy perspective and then study the entrepreneurship policy developed by the City of Buenos Aires government in 2008--2015. During this period, two different teams of public officials were in charge of the policy execution---each of them pursuing a different strategy. While I track down the change over time in policy approach during Macri's two administrations, I also find common elements in the two strategies, which allows me to identify the broader patterns characterizing the Buenos Aires's entrepreneurship policy as a whole and to analyze its key implications.;The knowledge gained through this in-depth analysis will contribute to future research on the impact of entrepreneurship policies in Buenos Aires and other subnational governments in and beyond Argentina, as well as on the relation between public policy quality, entrepreneurship and economic growth in developing countries. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Buenos aires, Entrepreneurship, Policy | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
