Abstract/Summary:
This thesis undertakes a study of Quick Disconnects, part of embedded hydraulic systems often used in the aerospace and space industries. These products must be reliable to promote safety and must exceed expectations to create customer loyalty and increase profit share.; This study was developed using mechanical and statistics tools and the Naval Surface War Center's (NSWC) new reliability prediction system. NSWC tested parts similar to those used in the product discussed here. Many of NSWC's calculations use the same environments.; Formulas combined with statistical calculations can be used to obtain Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) results. Some programs in the market use a library of MTBF results from testing and the data field that are then used to calculate similar products.; These methods were used to predict the mechanical reliability of a Quick Disconnect hydraulic coupling, a product supplied by Parker Hannifin Corporation, Aerospace Group, Stratoflex Division, Coupling Business Unit.
