This study investigated the system of alternate format material provision implemented at the University of Alaska Anchorage. The study relied upon interviews with eight students who experience disabilities impacting the use of traditional print materials. It aimed to discover the perceived level of effectiveness of alternate format materials by those who rely on them. Second, it explored the relative strengths and weaknesses of these types of materials, third, it investigated the relationship between the perceived level of effectiveness and principles known collectively as Universal Design, and fourth, it sought to gain input that could be used to improve service delivery.; Results pointed to a preference for digital materials, due in part to their smaller size and easier to use navigation features. These and other strengths and weaknesses cited by participants confirmed relatedness to UD principles.; Recommendations include further research with a larger pool of participants, increased training for students in the tools and techniques that are already available and increased collaboration to extend awareness and share resources.
