Abstract/Summary:
Foxhunting in Virginia: Preserving a Tradition is a creative project consisting of ten paintings depicting foxhunting in the rural farmland of Virginia's countryside. The paintings are done in the styles influenced by two prominent English mid-twentieth century foxhunting artists, Sir Alfred Munnings and Lionel Edwards, and two American artists, Franklin Voss and Richard Newton, Junior, of the same time period. The last two paintings are done in the artist's own style of painting. The paintings are preceded by four chapters that give biographical background and training of these four prominent artists and discuss their individual styles of painting. The artist and writer of this paper will use the paintings from the creative project that have been inspired by these artists in an art show to support foxhunting in Virginia.
