Abstract/Summary:
This thesis views the career exploration of adolescents with the purpose of developing effective instructional strategies that meet the New York State learning standards. As the mechanical age gives way to the media age, there is an increased focus on preparing students for the changing workforce. Recent legislative changes have also increased the need for effective career development programs throughout the Kindergarten to twelfth grade educational system. Many factors impact career exploration and occupational choice. Developmental characteristics, environmental factors, as well as the enormous variety of socio-demographic characteristics have an impact on career choice. Students also learn and think in different ways. This thesis considers how to facilitate the career exploration process; recognizing the diverse learning needs of students while presenting learning activities that are age appropriate, content rich, and promote career validity.
