| Previous literature has highlighted the positive effects of social support on college adjustments and achievement among the general student population. Cultural congruity, or the perception of fit between one's own culture and college culture, was also found to be positively correlated with students' college adjustment. The current study examined whether social support and cultural congruity have a similar positive effect on student veterans' college adjustment and academic performance. Furthermore, the current study assessed the possible moderating effect of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) diagnoses. Findings revealed that social support enhances student veterans' college adjustment by enhancing the perceived cultural congruity (fit between military and college cultures), regardless of PTSD diagnoses. However, social support and cultural congruity did not significantly predict student veterans' academic performance. |
