Abstract/Summary:
The US healthcare is facing a lot of challenges and is in need of critical evaluation of their costs and expenditures. Single Use Medical devices and their disposal make up a large part of healthcare costs. Current manufacturing processes and government regulations make it very difficult for healthcare organizations to cut back on their medical device costs. This study provides a background of the reasons why saving on medical devices is crucial and also gives a mathematical model for the analysis of possible cost savings while maintaining patient safety. It was determined that some single use devices can be reprocessed under certain guidelines for an optimal number of times and yield substantial savings without compromising patient safety.
