Abstract/Summary:
This capstone investigates why business ethics are sometimes different from personal ethics. This can lead to moral dilemmas in business decision-making. Five courses from the Master of Management and Master of Business Administration program at the College of St. Scholastica were studied to examine the factors that influence business ethics and how personal ethics influence business decision-making. The field of ethical business and how it relates to the ethics of individuals who run and manage corporations is ever evolving as leaders and managers evaluate what works and what does not work. A wind energy company, Navitas Energy, Inc. was examined as a case study example as to how individual and business ethics played a role in the success and failure of a merger and acquisition of that firm by a large international corporation. Current academic and business research was examined regarding how personal and business ethics plays a role in the decision-making processes of business leaders and managers in their management of organizations. Actions can be taken within organizations to help foster a culture of ethical business decision-making. Leadership's commitment to ethics helps develop an ethical decision-making culture.;Keywords: (ethics, values, morality, virtues, individual ethics, business ethics, morals, leadership, and management.).
