Height Controller is one of the most important component of nowadays high power laser cutting system. It can adjust the height of cutting head (usually on z-axis) dynamically to maintain a constant distance between the cutting head and the workpiece while cutting head in motion. This distance is usually less than 3 millimeters, so an extremely sensitive detection mechanism, and a real-time control system is required in the application.;In this design a full functional height controller based on FPGA + Nios II solution is presented. Verilog HDL has been used to describe most time-consuming algorithms by way of combinational logics, therefore the design could achieve a lower latency with a lower clock frequency, which means a lot of advantages such as lower power consumption and better stability. |
