| The ubiquity of the World Wide Web makes it an attractive means for the delivery of online courseware. The needs of an educator wanting to create an animated presentation for Web delivery are not met by current Web animation systems, which are designed for use by professional animators.; This thesis describes the process of designing and implementing a candidate Web animation system for use by educators and other non-professional animators. The literature is surveyed and limited graphics and animation background is covered. The functions of the animation system are outlined based on an estimation of the needs of educators. These functions are then translated into a working Web animation system in Java.; The resulting system allows the user to create models of scenes with vector graphics and animate them via a key-frame editor. The models are hierarchal to allow the easy creation and full manipulation of jointed figures. The system provides a consistent interface for general animation features including translation, rotation, scaling, and visibility control, as well as the means to manipulate text. |
