The intent of this research was to understand the older Chinese women's cultural background and whether the concept of "leisure" exist for them? If the concept of "leisure" is not relevant, how do they define the experience? The goal was to investigate their experiences, taking into account their cultural background and traditional values. In addition, this study was to explore terminology which they would use to describe things that they liked to do in their own language.; The life history methodology was used and the sampling was Chinese women of 55 years old and above, residing in the Metropolitan areas of Nova Scotia. Using the snowball sampling technique, six participants were involved in this study. The oldest participant was 91 year old and the youngest was 55 year old at the time of the study. All interviews were conducted twice at each interviewee's house or a place where she felt comfortable. Each interview lasted approximately one to one and a half hours. Four interviewees allowed the researcher to use tapes recording, and a dialect interpreter was present to do the translation when interviewees used various dialects. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
