The purpose of this study was to offer an example of a community art project that was included in the city renovation of a neighborhood which had been overrun with violence. As the designer of the mural, The Achievement Center, the author co-led in-depth workshops in which resident youth individually planned and painted the tiles. Therefore, the case study of this art project included observer-participation field notes, as well as interviews with the children and the adults who were intimately involved in the artwork and city renovation.; A history of the neighborhood is presented, as well as art project procedures and developments. The results and value to the community of this art project are discussed, along with suggestions for future projects. |
