| This inquiry examined the engagement, motivation, attitudes, and achievements of five struggling students. Their lack of engagement in class from day one was so noticeable that I was concerned even then that they were not going to make it academically. I was intrigued as to whether their lack of motivation and poor behavior were related to academic issues in particular reading difficulties. I have studied the literature in regard to reading strategies and motivation and have gathered information from the current year's test scores and academic performances along with prior years' records to determine that these students are below grade level in reading and have all been struggling students in the past. I have used qualitative research in the form of observations, interviews, surveys and shadow studies to seek these answers. Finally, this study will present a clear picture of where these students are floundering. |
